Search & Research RO

Ephemair Association is pleased to announce the continuance of Search & Research RO program, initiated during The White Night of the Art Galleries 2016, where we invited a group of foreign contemporary art specialists to explore and discover the local cultural scene.

Search & Research RO continues this is year during The White Night of the Art Galleries. At the end of this program, on Tuesday 10th October, starting 4PM there will be a public discussion with our guests at Rezidența BRD Scena9.

In 2017, Search & Research RO is developed in cooperation with ARC Bucharest’s residence program for curators, and the guests are:

White Night of The Art Galleries - NAG is an annual event that looks through the scene of contemporary culture and the spaces that promote it. Initiated in 2007, NAG takes place in over 10 cities around Romania.

Program

The one-week program of Search & Research RO will include an intensive tour of the institutions, galleries and initiatives participating in the NAG Bucharest program, a research trip to Timisoara and Arad and a series of visits to different artists' studios in Bucharest.
The program will be closed with a public discussion with our guests, moderated by Dragos Olea - member of the APPARATUS 22 artists' team and ARC Bucharest consultant - held on October 10th, starting 4PM, at Rezindența BRD Scena9 in Bucharest.

Miguel Amado

, Portugal

Miguel Amado - Senior Curator at Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art (UK) Miguel Amado is Senior Curator at Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art, England. He was the curator of the Portuguese Pavilion at the 2013 Venice Biennale. He has been a curator at Tate St Ives, England, and the Centro de ArtesVisuais in Coimbra, Portugal, among other institutions. He has been a curatorial fellow at Rhizome at the New Museum and Independent Curators International in New York. Also in New York, he has been a curator-in-residence at the International Studio and Curatorial Program and the Abrons Arts Center. As a freelancer, he has curated exhibitions and projects at various institutions and events. These include apexart in New York, the MuseuColeçãoBerardo in Lisbon, Frieze Projects at Frieze London, Art Projects at London Art Fair and No Soul for Sale: A Festival of Independents at the X Initiative in New York and Tate Modern in London. He is a critic for Artforumand his writing has also appeared in magazines such as The Exhibitionist. He is adviser at FRAC Pays de la Loire in Nantes. He has been a lecturer, symposium organiser and jury member for organisations such as IstitutoEuropeo di Design in Venice, ARCO in Madrid and FundaciónBotin in Santander. His awards include the Contemporary Art Society Collections Fund at Frieze in 2016 and the 2011 apexart Unsolicited Proposal Program. His grants include a Curators Grant from the Foundation for Arts Initiatives in New York in 2007. He is attending the MRes in Curatorial/Knowledge at Goldsmiths, University of London and the Innovative Leadership course at the Victoria & Albert Museum. He is a graduate of the MA in Curating Contemporary Art at the Royal College of Art. Further education includesNight School at the New Museum, Tate Intensive at Tate Modern and the Independent Curators International Curatorial Intensive at the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing.

Geir Haraldseth

Stavanger, Norway

Geir Haraldseth is the director of Rogaland Kunstsenter and based in Stavanger, Norway. Haraldseth holds a BA in Fine Arts from Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design and an MA in Curatorial Studies from Bard College. Previous positions include curator at the National Museum of Art, Design and Architecture, Oslo, and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Oslo. Haraldseth has contributed to several prestigious journals and magazines including Art in America, the Exhibitionist, Kunstkritikk, Acne Paper, and Landings Journal. His work as an independent curator focuses on the links between art and critique of consumerist sociery and he has curated shows at the National Museum of Art, Design and Architecture, Oslo, Stavanger Kunstmuseum, Stavanger, Teatro de Arena, Sao Paulo, Akershus Kunstsenter, Lillestrøm GucciVuitton, Miami, Vox Populi, Philadelphia, Fotogalleriet, Oslo, Landings Project Space, Vestfossen etc. Curatorial residencies awarded include Futura, Prague; ISCP, New York; Capacete, Rio de Janeiro; and Parse, New Orleans. He published «Great! I’ve written something stupid» in 2012, featuring a selection of his curated projects and writings, published by Torpedo Press. Upcoming publications include «Collective Good, Collaborative Efforts» and «Luxury Face.»

Gabi Scardi

Milano, Italy

Gabi Scardi is an acclaimed art curator, scholar and critic living and working in Milano. Currently she is also running the curatorial and commission program of Nctm e l'arte. She was curator of MAXXI (Italy's NationalMuseum of 21st Century Arts), and co-director of the European Course for Contemporary Art Curators (CECAC), together with Roberto Pinto. Between 2005 and 2009 she was the Contemporary Art Advisor to the Province of Milan She curated CECAC (European Course for Contemporary Art Curators) - Fondazione Ratti, Como, Italy and Province of Milan. Evelyn Simons

Bruxelles, Belgium

Evelyn Simons is an independent curator, researcher, writer and also project coordinator of CAB, a private and non-profit center for contemporary art in Brussels She holds an MA in art history (University Ghent) and a postgraduate in curating (School of Arts, Ghent). Recent exhibitions: Driftwood. Or how we surfaced through currents (June – July 2017), Athens - Curate Award of the Fondazione Prada & Qatar Museums Authority, Onder ons (CIAP Hasselt 2017) together with Isabel Van Bos, Independent Film Screening (Independent HQ and Cinema Galéries Brussels, 2017), a three-day art film festival, Marres Currents #5 together with Isabel Van Bos at Marres, House for Contemporary Culture, Maastricht,Netherlands (coming up), The Language We Use (Artenova, Mechelen, Belgium, 2016). Evelyn was a curator-in-residence at the Beirut Art Residency at the beginning of 2016. She writes for The Word Magazine, is part of curatorial collective No Performance Please.

Stefan Vicedom

Stefan Vicedom is an emerging curator based in Frankfurt am Main, Germany currently working as Research Associate (Contemporary Art) STÄDEL MUSEUM. He has curated several exhibitions at SIMULTANHALLE, Koln (selected exhibitions: MAARTEN VAN ROY - Kevin Spacey, TANJA KODLIN - balancing on the edge as if holding its breath, NATALIE OBERT & JESSICA TWITCHELL - O≶T≙J≶N etc.), at NAK NEUER AACHENER KUNSTVEREIN, Aachen, Germany where he was Junior Curator between 2014 – 2015 (selected exhibitions: SOUND NOIR -Jacob Kirkegaard / Konrad Smolenski MODELL KUNSTVEREIN - Art & Language, BANK, Andrea Fraser, Nadim Vardag / Michael Franz, Manuel Graf (Twodo Projekt), BEYOND ARCHITECTURE - Horst H. Baumann, Andreas Bunte, Larissa Fassler, Günther Förg, Cyprien Gaillard, Irmel Kamp, Philipp Noller / Mike Kirchner, Karl Hugo Schmölz, Martin Weidemann); also worked as curatorial assistant at MUSEUM LUDWIG, Budapest between 2012- 2013.
